"Are
there any surf shops/ board rentals?" Nope.
The "surf shops" sell clothes and beach accessories mostly,
and maybe the odd kids bodyboard. No board rentals are available.
"I
am coming down in ____. Will there be any waves?"
To check waves go to the Links page and
check the maps. Or go to surfline.com
and check there.
"Where
can I stay in Antigua?" That's all dependant on
your budget. Ask your travel agent. There are no hostels that I
know of. You can also rent a house in English Harbour area if you're
going to be here a while..but I do NOT have info on rentals. Sorry.
"What
other islands are good for a surfing trip?" The
following islands have much better surf:
- Puerto
Rico
- The US Virgin
Islands
- Dominican
Republic
- Jamaica
- Martinique
- Barbados
- Trinidad
& Tobago
"What
is the currency/ exchange rate for the $US?" It
is usually somewhere between EC$2.50 and $2.70 for US$1
"Should
I bring my board down?" You
know the stories of damaged boards. So, if you have a really nice
board you may not want to chance it unless you can tell from the
maps that it will be epic.
"Do
I need a wetsuit?" Err, no. But in winter, we do
get some chilly days. However northerners may be comfortable with
the temps because they're used to worse!
"Can
I work in Antigua?" Yes. You can try to get a work
visa (easier if you are British I think) but that may take a while.
You can always work illegally but I am not suggesting that you do.
"What
is the crime like?" If you bring your brain with
you, it should not be a problem. Do NOT get caught with any
illegal substances. You should not try to buy any either
